Anthropic publishes detailed trust and safety documentation for enterprise Claude usage. The answers exist — you just have to go read them and verify they meet your requirements before you build.

"We'll sort out the security stuff later" is how you end up with a compliance crisis during a product launch. Sort it out first. It takes far less time than you think.

The Regulatory Landscape Is Catching Up Fast

GDPR and CCPA have AI-adjacent implications that are actively being tested and interpreted right now. EU AI Act provisions around high-risk AI use cases are coming into effect on a rolling basis through 2026 and 2027. Marketing teams that are using AI to personalize content at scale, make automated decisions about customer segments, or generate targeted messaging are operating in regulated territory — whether or not it feels that way from the inside.

Legal doesn't need to block AI adoption. But they do need a seat at the table early, not when you're already in production and doing damage control.

Claude, specifically, is a well-designed tool for this kind of work. It's honest about uncertainty, thoughtful in its outputs, and — when you use the enterprise tier appropriately — does not have to represent a data security risk. But "well-designed" is not the same as "self-governing." The tool is only as safe as the workflow you build around it.

Do the work upfront. Classify your data. Read the terms. Build the review protocols. Get legal to the table early. Train your team not just on how to use the tools, but on what not to put in a prompt.
